Ammanford travelled to Gorseinon looking to get back into the winning habit .
The visitors started well, earning an early penalty which was coolly slotted over by Rhydian Morris.
However, for the next 15 minutes Ammanford lost their way and Gorseinon found the extra man on the outside on several occasions. Only some scrambled defence from the visitors was able to keep the home side at bay, but the pressure eventually told and a penalty for the hosts got them back on level terms.
Ammanford made life hard for themselves by trying to run out of defence and were easily turned over for Gorseinon to run in a simple try.
The visitors had their luck to thank with the Gorseinon centre having left his kicking boot at home. He missed the conversion, but also squandered three relatively straightforward penalty kicks at goal.
Going into the final 10 minutes of the half there was a flurry of points.
O’Kelly, the home outside-half, finally found his range and took the hosts into a 11-3, before Morris responded to make it 11-6.
With the whistle moments away, Ammanford finally strung together their first period of phase play.
The visitors stretched the home defence and centre Michael Evans took full advantage, displaying some nice footwork to beat two defenders and off-load inside for second row Jake Baker cross for a 13-11 interval lead in the visitors’ favour.
The second half saw Ammanford play far better and controlled rugby, which unfortunately failed to add any extra points to the board.
The visitors had to wait until the 63 minute before some strong ripping saw Liam Baker break out of a maul with the ball and his early off-load sent scrum-half Aled James galloping down the wing. His well-timed inside ball to open-side Llyr Morris saw the flanker go clear in the corner. Outside-half Morris put over a late penalty to give the visitors a 21-11 win.
